Oregon Quail and Pheasant hunt November 2011

Nick, Lee and I went on a short tripo to eastern Oregon this year. These Quail were a short but productive walk. We scattered them up on to a hill where we then had some excellent dog work.

Me with the same quail, I thought I should put the picture up since Iowa State then upset #2 ranked Oklahoma State the next night.

Pepper with the Pheaasant and Quail from a great day. 22 Birds in this picture. This was the first time I have shot my limit of quail. The biggest Rooster in the picture Milly, Harley and Dixie pointed. Milly stayed with it as it moved forward, flushed and I shot it and she retrieved it. The bird had a tailfeather just over 24 inches long.

Veterans Day Hunt

These Birds were taken on Veterans Day this year. Two of the Roosters were pointed perfectly. One of them Milly, Harley and Nick's Brittany Annie all pointed together and Milly had a excellent retrieve right to hand.  Dana and Nick shot one of these birds.

Happy Halloween

Nick, Lee and I snuck out Halloween morning and had an amazing day.  The dogs were dynamic and the birds were great!

3 Turkey sitting in the trees watching us as we hunted past them.

Montana Road Trip

This Bird was the king of the trip.  Harley pointed and retrieved this bird at the end of my day in Plentywood.  It was a nice big bird.

Getting a drink from the Yellowstone River

These two young birds were found really quick....I had spoken with a fish cop at he Fish and Game headquarters and he told me a place to go to find some Pheasant.  He was right.  They were both young birds, Milly and Harley each were the finders of a bird.

Roosters on the Yellowstone River
I was able to take one more Rooster at the end of that quick afternoon hunt to go with the two young birds.  Harley nailed this bird with a beautiful point that I moved in on and took.

This was the last bird I shot on the trip.  I made a quick stop on the way home from the area I hunted on the way in on the Yellowstone River.  Harley was actually the one to point and retrieve this bird.  Milly was more cooperative for the photo.

This pictures is of a Rooster that I shot at the beginning of a morning hunt in Plentywood.  On the way back to the rig Milly rounded up this turtle shell for me.

First Roosters in Montana, Quite a day!

These two Roosters were my first taken in Montana.  The first one Harley pointed early on the edge of a Canal I was hunting.  Easy Shot, great retrieve by Harley.  The 2nd bird had quite a tale to tell.  Carla had called for prayere with the kids, I was out early because I had some appointments later that morning.  While I was walking along listening to the prayer I looked up and Milly and Harley were both on POINT 30-40 yards ahead of me.  I got off the phone, said my good byes went up and shot the bird.  I don't think I will ever forget that moment.

Pepper Pointing on Opening Day of Pheasant 2011

This Picture is one of Pepper's Points from opening day of Pheasant Season. She is still hunting and pointing like a champion, unfortunately her age is starting to show. I have had to leave her home a few times to rest and recover. It tears me apart to leave her back, and I know she feels the same!

Quick Morning Pheasant Hunt

This is one of those days when the pictures speak for themselves.  Great dog work, great birds and some pretty good shooting to go with it.

Opendind day of Pheasant Season 2011

Madison's First Pheasant Hunt, the cover and the Thistle's were thick!  She was a trooper and the Dogs gave her some nice points.  She took a couple shot, but came home with an empty bag.
Riley also hunted, we didn't get him in positiion for any shots, but he was entertaining us with some singing along the way.

Oregon Quail and Chukar Hunt

This is from the last day of the hunt, and it was a little rougher than expected.  We got into a lot of Chukar.  they were wild and it was hot and we didn't get the best dog work.  This picture is Milly, Harley, and myself with some Chukar and Quail and a few antler sheds we found.

Lee, with Sage and Archie on the same hunt.

Early Quick Sharpie Hunt

I snuck out for a quick walk with the dogs near home this morning. Took all 3 and went after it. Pepper locked up on top of a hill and a covey of huns flushed quick and I was able to get one of them. Harley retrieved it. Made a loop back to the same old road/trail that the huns were on. Milly got Birdy, Harley went on point. A groupe of 6-8 Sharptail flushed and I doubled. The birds didn't hold well, the wind was whipping and I think they were pretty nervous.

October Sage and Sharptail Hunt

We only had time for a quick morning hunt, but we made the most of it. The kids didn't get to shoot, but Dad got his First Sage grouse off of a nice point on a group of Sage Hen that Harley pointed. Milly actually pointed a pair of Sharptail for me, I was able to take one of those. The night before I found a Moose Shed, that was a first for me. I was able to shoot a Sage Hen earlier in the morning as well.

Ruff Grouse Hunt

This was a quick morning hunt. Harley and Milly got me into my only Ruff Grouse of the morning. We won't talk about the Blue's they pointed and I missed.
