Quail are almost done

After I get these 3 species back, all 6 North American quail will be at my house.  The Grand Slam of quail.

Last preseason run on wild birds

Milly and Harley had a good morning on sharptail and huns.  We found about 8 sharpies and 2 pair of huns.   Birds were plentiful and if Jazz would have been on her game it would have been even betterCan't wait for summer to pass.

A little spring training 2017

Did a big walk today checking on the upland game around the place.  Milly found a single Hun early and then we didn't see anything tell almost 100 yards from the house.  Milly pointed, Jazz and Harley backed. They stood strong as I moved around them and released them.  Within seconds Jazz locked up and Harley and Milly honored.  I moved in front of them, snapped a photo, thinking that there was nothing in the bare fields, I released the dogs from pointing and two huns flushed.

Post season run

Ran the dogs the other day and had a few finds on a small covey of huns.  Good to see some of my neighborly covey made it through the snow.   Birds held pretty well.  Dogs were a little anxious but settled down and remembered what they were supposed to do.

Most Hunderful time of the year

Got home from a business trip to Louisiana and noone was home.  So I took the dogs for a quick hun run.  Conditions were excellent and birds were plentiful. 5 coveys of huns, 5 sharptails and about 8 pheasant.
All 3 Britts were sharp today. Huns were the only thing open this time of year.

Chukar and quail hunt

This picture will remind me of one of my favorite moments this year. We were out quail hunting and I decided to rest jazz in a kennel in the truck.  She was having nothing to do with that. She broke out and joined us on the hunt. Good thing, she locked up on a covey of chukar and Harley and Milly backed.  My buddy and his son and I took 5 birds from the covey. That isn't the best part, I had all 3 Britts retrieving a chukar to me at the same time.  One of those moments that you cherish.

Montana October trip

Thanksgiving weekend

Lots to be thankful for. Tradition to chase birds with friends and family

Quick run on partridge yesterday

Had a busy day yesterday, managed to slip out for a few hours and the dogs were good. Two chukar and a hun.  Jazz pointed and Milly  backed a big covey of huns.  Harley and jazz pointed a pair of chukar I took. Great retrieves on all the birds.

Big Ol Roosters today

Hunted some steep terrain today. Up and down brushy draws. I have found more old roosters in that kind of habitat, so I figured I would make a quick run. I was out just over an hour.  Jazz had a great find today. She hunts so quiet. She locked up on an old mature rooster over 100 yards away up and down steep draws. I moved right in on him. She also pointed the other bird with Harley.  Milly had a great retrieve on the 1st bird down in the draw.

Multiplicity of Blessings today

I Hunted with my dad today.  The Britts had a another good day on Roosters, and an even better day on Huns.  Took the day off and it was a Multiplicity of blessings day today. We had finished our day with 3 roosters and 2 huns, we were lining them up for pictures on the barn window. Jazz was nowhere to be found and then all of the sudden the Garmin said she was on point 160 yards away.  I let it sit and continued getting the other dogs in the picture. Well, she was still on point. So I grabbed the gun and reloaded it and headed up the hill. Harley and Milly joined the walk and as we got close they locked up and honored Jazz. I walked into a small covey of 5 huns and only took 1 shot and 1 bird. Harley with the retrieve.
We also had all 3 point a covey of 20 huns that my dad and I took a bird each from.
The pheasant work was super as usual. All birds were pointed and 1 was retrieved from the snake river by Milly, the other off a steep drop to the bank of the river by Harley.

Super short hunt today

Snuck out for a quick walk, Jazz locked up at 150 yards from the truck within minutes. She stood this Rooster really well. Milly and Harley backed and I moved in nice and quiet for the shot. Milly had the retrieve.
