5 species of quail in two weeks!

Well, we did it. We set out on a quest to pursue 5 species of quail. We started in Idaho on January 1st and got some Valley/California quail and did well. We then rolled out the next Friday for Colorado hunted Saturday and got some Blue/Scaled quail. After that we hunted Monday  and Tuesday in Kansas for bobwhite. Spent Wednesday and Thursday chasing Mearns/Harlequin/Montezuma quail in Arizona, and Friday chasing Gambles quail. It has been an epic hunt and have created memories that I will never forget.  Saw wide varieties of habitat and country. What a blessed trip!

Well, this isn't all of them, but we had a great day chasing valley quail.

One quail of a night!

The 3 Britts and I had us a quail of a night. Milly and Harley were on fire and Jazz found her quail mojo. We had a couple times when all 3 were on point, including a big covey of Huns. 

This was one of those nights where all 3 were on their A game! Most of this happened in about 40 minutes. 

Snow Day

December Ruff grouse hunting

Alright time to play find the grouse. Harley pointed a ruff grouse today and she knew it was nearby....the grouse on the other hand had the drop on her. 

I also had a great point from Jazz...came over the hill and she was locked up and wouldn't budge. However whatever was there gave us the slip.

Finished the day strong!

3 rounds of basketball games today. It made for very little time in the field. I was able to get the dogs out for the last 25 minutes of the day. Jazz found this rooster, (wouldn't hold) we actually saw about 5 in a short time. Milly got the retrieve.

Black Friday and Thanksgiving weekend

Thanksgiving weekend is always a great weekend. No it's not Black Friday that gets me excited, it's usually a good couple of days of bird hunting with family and friends. 

A good thanksgiving eve hunt. I got two Huns and 3 roosters.

Pre-thanksgiving Warmup

Had a great afternoon run with the dogs.  Jazz was the boss today. She pointed several times today and held great on the ones that cooperated. This little buck also added to the joy of the day.

Busy Saturday of basketball. Had time for a short and beautiful hunt/walk this morning. Point and retrieve on a small covey of huns by Jazz and a nice find and retrieve on the Rooster by Harley.

Roosters on the creek

My favorite creek for roosters has been feast or famine this year. Had an incredible afternoon hunt with my dad Saturday.  2 of the 3 places had a lot of birds on them.  It was super windy but the dogs had some great points and great retrieves. We each took a pair of roosters. Millynhad a great retrieve across the creek, Harley and Jazz had some excellent points.
