Season started today in Idaho.

Well, the season is upon us here in Idaho.  After my first 3 choices to start had bow hunters parked in it, I finally found somewhere to have a  brief hunt this morning before work.  Milly, Harley, and Jazz, they all 3 pointed this one. It was just above them in the tree, however there was another in the ground  that i think they were pointing.  For the first bird of the year you would never have known.  They acted like they'd done this before. Took it with my 28 guage as well.

High mountain lakes

About 28 years ago I hiked into these lakes and caught the wopper in the bottom right.  Did it again yesterday.  Incredible  place to be. Caught my first grayling also. Caught some decent cutties as well.

Last preseason run on wild birds

Milly and Harley had a good morning on sharptail and huns.  We found about 8 sharpies and 2 pair of huns.   Birds were plentiful and if Jazz would have been on her game it would have been even betterCan't wait for summer to pass.

A little spring training 2017

Did a big walk today checking on the upland game around the place.  Milly found a single Hun early and then we didn't see anything tell almost 100 yards from the house.  Milly pointed, Jazz and Harley backed. They stood strong as I moved around them and released them.  Within seconds Jazz locked up and Harley and Milly honored.  I moved in front of them, snapped a photo, thinking that there was nothing in the bare fields, I released the dogs from pointing and two huns flushed.

Post season run

Ran the dogs the other day and had a few finds on a small covey of huns.  Good to see some of my neighborly covey made it through the snow.   Birds held pretty well.  Dogs were a little anxious but settled down and remembered what they were supposed to do.

Most Hunderful time of the year

Got home from a business trip to Louisiana and noone was home.  So I took the dogs for a quick hun run.  Conditions were excellent and birds were plentiful. 5 coveys of huns, 5 sharptails and about 8 pheasant.
All 3 Britts were sharp today. Huns were the only thing open this time of year.

Chukar and quail hunt

This picture will remind me of one of my favorite moments this year. We were out quail hunting and I decided to rest jazz in a kennel in the truck.  She was having nothing to do with that. She broke out and joined us on the hunt. Good thing, she locked up on a covey of chukar and Harley and Milly backed.  My buddy and his son and I took 5 birds from the covey. That isn't the best part, I had all 3 Britts retrieving a chukar to me at the same time.  One of those moments that you cherish.

Thanksgiving weekend

Lots to be thankful for. Tradition to chase birds with friends and family

Quick run on partridge yesterday

Had a busy day yesterday, managed to slip out for a few hours and the dogs were good. Two chukar and a hun.  Jazz pointed and Milly  backed a big covey of huns.  Harley and jazz pointed a pair of chukar I took. Great retrieves on all the birds.
