Ruff Grouse, King of the Woods

It was a quick short hunt in the heat of the day (mid 80's).  The 3 Brits pointed and worked this ruffie several times.  It would flush but I was never in the right place.  Finally the last time Milly and Harley pinned him just right, just before I took him.  One of the larger more mature ruff grouse I have taken.

A Fine Saturday night Grouse Hunt

WWe had a great night with all the dogs.  Found a nice Elk Shed and some great grouse wingshooting. I used to hunt grouse because nothing else was open yet...NOT ANYMORE. I love being out hunting grouse in their native habitat.

Another day of dog handling

Had the opportunity again  to do alittle dog handling for a group of people Lee and I take care of every year.  Dog work was great. Good times!

A quick hunt before leaving for work.

I had about an hour before work today, saw 2 ruffs, 3 pheasant, and a deer.  Harley pointed the ruff I took on his first flush, Jazz on the 2nd.  I finally shot him on the third flush.

Blues and Ruffs

Went back to my old stomping ground and had a great morning hunt.  Milly pointed an old mature ruff and Jazz and Harley both honored. I had to backtrack through the nasty cover to get to the bird.  They held for several minutes.
Later Milly and Harley pointed some blues. I took 2 and could have shot 3. Jazz retrieved her first Blue to me wE saw 7 ruffs and 4 blues and heard some more flushes.

Another Fine Morning

Lee and Jordan got a couple nice mature birds off some decent dog work!  Just a short morning hunt.

Evening hunt to one of our favorite spots

Lee and I did an evening hunt to one of our favorite spots.
It's been a wet year and lots of berries and mushrooms are all over the forest.

Labor Day Grouse Hunt

We had another good day grouse hunting on Labor Day.  I didn't take enough pictures....but Harley had a great retrieve out of the water on a ruff I shot.  I also had one of those moments when you don't have a shell in the gun.  Milly and Jazz tracked a family of blues to a water hole.  The best shot I had, the gun was empty.  Other than that the dog work, the shooting and the day were great!

We saw this Bald Eagle on the way Back!
